Kahana

Kahana
   1) (fl. 2nd-3rd cent)
   Babylonian amora. He and Assi were prominent scholars when Rav returned from Palestine to Babylonia. Later Kahana emigrated to Palestine, where he joined some of the last tannaim.
   2) (Kahana, pupil of Rav) (fl. 3rd cent.)
   Ba-bylonian amora. It is recorded that he read the weekly Bible portion at Rav's academy. After executing a person who had threatened to denounce a fellow Jew to the Persian authorities, he fled from Babylonia to Palestine. There he joined the academy of Johanan.
   3) (Kahana, pupil of Rava) (fl. 4th cent)
   Ba-by Ionian amora. He taught at the academy of Pum Nahara; among his pupils was Ashi, the redactor of the Babylonian Talmud.
   4) (d. 414)
   Babylonian amora. He succeeded Rafram ben Papa as head of the academy of Pumbedita from 396.
